ANKNEY

Last Thursday commander and some thirty members of Hervey Dix Post G.A.R. took teams and drove out about four miles to attend the funeral of Samuel Ankney. Several neighbors had gathered at the house, where the service was held. Rev. Marshall made a very appropriate address.

He was buried in the soldiers lot in Pleasant Grove cemetery, according to the Ritual service of the Grand Army of the Republic. Mr. Ankney was a member of the 2nd Wis. infantry* and carried marks of Rebel lead to his grave. Another member of this band of patriots has gone over to the silent majority and no one to fill the place left vacant.

~McGregor News, Wednesday, October 17, 1894

Note: Should be Co. B, 7th WI Inf.
