A message received this morning announced the death of Fred Rathman at 12:30 last night at the Browning hospital in Caledonia, Minn. His remains are to be brought here Friday evening and the funeral will be held at ten o'clock Saturday morning from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ross Richardson.

Frederick Rathman was born in Machern, Germany, Nov. 13th, 1833, and came to the united States in 1854, locating at Carlyle, N.Y.
In 1855 he was united in marriage with Mary O'Flaraty in the city of Philadelphia, and after residing in Chicago for a while they came to Elkader in 1866, where they resided until the death of Mrs. Rathman on Oct. 24th, 1908, after which he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. C. E. Lyman, in Caledonia, Minn. He died April 16th, in Browning Hospital after an illness of five days, aged 80 years, four months and three days.
His remains were brought to Elkader Friday and on Saturday morning funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rosa Richardson, conducted by Rev. Franke. Interment in the East Side cemetery.
