Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 26 Mar. 1914. Strawberry Point column.
Al. D. Ball succumbed Sunday morning at 5 o'clock to the ravages of the grim reaper, after a two months illness of dropsy of the heart. He had been confined to his home at Oelwein for some weeks before his death. The funeral was held from the Sacred Heart church Tuesday morning at eight o'clock, Rev. P. S. O'Connor officiating at the services. The body was then brought to Strawberry Point for burial. At the interment services Rev. Craig assisted Rev. O'Connor. Al. D. Ball was born near Strawberry Point, Iowa, December 7, 1860, and passed out of this life March 8, 1914, being at the time of his death 53 years and three months of age. The deceased grew to young manhood on his father's farm, near Strawberry Point, leaving there at about 20 years of age. In 1885 he was united in marriage to Teresa Dillon. Four children were born to this union: three of whom, two girls and one boy, died in infancy. Seven years ago Mr. and Mrs. Ball removed to Oelwein, where Mr. Ball engaged in the barber business, and he remained in that occupation until his late illness forced him to retire. He was a highly respected citizen and enjoyed the friendship of a large circle of acquaintances, who, with the bereaved wife and daughter, Gertrude, mourn his demise. He also leaves three brothers, Jake, Steven and Frank, all residing on farms near Strawberry Point; two sisters, Emiline, at Darlington, Wis., and Armon, at Kingfisher, Okla. The deceased was converted to the Catholic faith about one month before his death and received the last rites of the church.
