AGED RESIDENT WAS BORN IN GERMANY 78 YEARS AGO

Illness of several months brought death early Monday to Mrs. Ernest [sic] Winch, a resident of Guttenberg for many years.

Mrs. Winch, whose maiden name was Wilhelmine Borchert, was 78 years old at the time of her passing.

Born Feb. 11, 1858, in Pommern, Germany, Mrs. Winch there grew to womanhood. She was married to August Sadewasser, and with him she came to America, settling in Guttenberg. Mr. Sadewasser preceded her in death many years ago.

She then married Ernst Winch of Guttenberg. They lived on a farm in Volga Township for many years. Mr. Winch died Aug. 19, 1896.

Mrs. Winch is survived by five sons: Walter Sadewasser of Elkader, Ernst Winch of Volga Township, Henry Winch of Guttenberg, William Winch of Garber, and Edward Winch of North Buena Vista; three daughters: Mrs. Selma Thein of Elk Township, Mrs. Malinda Thein of Elk Township, and Mrs. Lena Wittman of Lansing; three step children: Fred Winch and Louis Winch of Littleport, and Mrs. Otto Schmelzer of Garnavillo; 48 grand children, and many great and great great grandchildren.

The Rev. W. J. F. Adix will preside over the funeral rites of Mrs. Winch at 2 p. m. today in St. John’s American Lutheran Church. Burial will be in City Cemetery.
