Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 12 Feb. 1914. Read column.

The remains of Wm. Werges, an old settler, were brought here last Saturday and funeral services conducted in the church by Rev. K. W. Braun. The deceased was born in Germany more than 84 years ago. After his immigration into the land of matchless opportunities, he lived a number of years in New Bremen, Ohio, coming from there to Clayton County, where the greater part of his life was spent. Possessing those habits of thrift and industry he accumulated considerable wealth, his early life being full of toil and hardship, the unavoidable attendants of pioneer life. He is survived by four children, August and Wm. Werges, Mrs. Minna Muller and Miss Bertha Werges. The wife and mother preceded him in death.
