Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 12 Feb. 1914. Guttenberg column.

Relatives in this city received the sad news from Long Beach, Cali., the first of the week, stating that Irving McDonald, of this city, but who had gone to California to spend the winter months, had died at Long Beach, Sunday. Deceased was born at Dumfries-shire, Scotland, September 2, 1834, and therefore was past 79 years of age at the time of his death. In the year 1854 deceased came to the United States. He lived on a farm near Elkport many years, and came to Guttenberg about four years ago to reside. A few months ago he went to California to spend the winter months, expecting to return home in the spring. He was never married. His death is deeply mourned by two brothers, Alexander McDonald, of Guttenberg, and George McDonald of Klemat, Oregon; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Schroeder and Mrs. Mary Patrick, both of Guttenberg, and a large circle of relatives and friends, by whom he will be sadly missed. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at one o'clock from the McDonald home. Interment was made in the City cemetery.
