Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 22 Jan. 1914.
It is with deep sympathy that we chronicle the death of Mary Jevene Rodas, daughter of Chas. and Isabelle Rodas, nee Hageman.
Mary was born in Elk township, this county, on Aug. 24th, 1901. She was of a very lovable disposition and thereby endeared herself to all who knew her, as well to her parents, sister and brothers. Upon her were lavished even more than the ordinary amount of love, as she was the youngest daughter, two sisters, Bertha and Grace, having preceded her to the Great Beyond, when they too, each in turn, had attained about the same age as did she. Her life was only past its twelfth milestone, but it left brightest sunshine and little deeds of kindness and of love, the memory of which will ever cause us to see that loving smile and hear that cheerful word of greeting to each and all.
On Sunday, Dec. 21st, 1913, she was taken with the illness that was only to end when the Good Shepard had called her to himself. She passed away on Jan. 13th, 1914, at the age of twelve years, four months and nineteen days. Burial services were conducted by Rev. Foelsch, at the house and church and thence to the Mt. Harmony Cemetery. The sacred edifice was filled with sympathizing friends, who came to pay a tribute of love and tears of sadness at the parting with this loved one.
Her nearest relatives, who will greatly miss her are her parents, one sister, Mrs. G. S. McDowell; four brothers, John, Charley, Frank and Freddie; also a sister-in-law, Mrs. John Rodas and little Alto and G. S. McDowell, as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Loving hands and medical aid did all mortals could do, but the dear Saviour loved her best.
The floral offerings were numerous and very beautiful. the flower-girls were Misses Alma Brandenburg, Roma Brandenburg, Luella Dannebrink, Sophia Dannebrink, Melinda Dannebrink and Lenna Wittman.
