Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 22 Jan. 1914.
Austin Thyne was born Nov. 6th, 1849, in Milltown-Malbay, County Clare, Ireland, and died at his home near Volga Jan. 11th, 1914, at 10:45 a.m., aged 64 years 2 months and 7 days, having been in poor health the past seven years.
Mr. Thyne came to America in 1865, his mother, two brothers and one sister following five years later.
He sailed from Queensland, Ireland, and was twenty days crossing the ocean. He landed in Boston, Mass., where he worked about four months on the railroad. Then he left for the West and came to Oshkosh, Wis., where he went to work on a farm, remaining only two months, when he decided to come to Iowa, where he has since resided. Here he worked for different parties six or seven years and then purchased a farm in Sperry township, which he cultivated and improved, and, by hard labor and industry, soon had a nice home on which he has lived the past forty years.
He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Henry Jan. 22nd, 1877, at the Catholic church on Cox Creek. He is survived by his wife and thirteen children, all of whom were around him at the time of his death. The children are as follows: Mrs. Jennie Behrens, Clinton, Iowa; Mrs. Isabelle Jacobia, Postville, Iowa; Anna, Austie, Willie, Robert, Emmet, Walter, Hubert, Grace, Florence, Eileen and Josephine, at home. He is also survived by one brother, who resided with him, one sister, who lives in Clare, South Australia, and three little grandsons.
The funeral which was largely attended was held at Sacred Heart church, Cox Creek, Thursday morning, conducted by Father Hartigan. The choir sang a Requiem Mass and burial took place at Cox Creek cemetery. His six sons acted as pall-bearers.
Relatives from away who attended the funeral were Thomas Cormack, of Clare, South Australia; John Thyne, of Doon, Iowa; M. C. Henry, of White Bluffs, Wash.; James Carr and wife and Mrs. Dan Kenna and son, of Lamont, Iowa.
"Requies__t in Peace."
