Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 08 Jan. 1914.
Last Thursday morning our people were shocked to learn of the sudden death of Charles Feldman, which occurred at Elkport the evening before, heart failure being the cause.
Charles A. Feldman was born in Karstrop, West Phalen, Germany, March 25th, 1854. Coming to America at the age of 22 years, he followed the blacksmith trade at Eitzen, Minn., at which place he was married to Minnie Schukei in 1877 and to them were born three daughters, namely: Mrs. Fred Smith, of Strawberry Point, Iowa; Mrs. Herbert Williamson, of Sioux City, Iowa; and Mrs. George Witt, of Indiana Harbor, Indiana, who with the widow and three grandchildren, survive him.
From Eitzen, Minn., they moved to Waukon, Iowa, where they resided ten years, then moving to Elkader, Iowa, where they made their home for 26 years.
On Nov. 15th, 1913, they moved to Dubuque, Iowa, their present home. He died at Elkport, Iowa, Dec. 31, 1913, at the age of 59 years, 9 months and 6 days.
Funeral services were held at Strawberry Point on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock from the home of Mr. ad Mrs. Fred Smith, conducted by Rev. Wood, of that city, to the Congregational church and from there to the cemetery, where the services were conducted by the Masons.
For many years he had been a traveling salesman for farm machinery and a host of friends all over this section of the state will sorrow at his death and extend their sympathy to the bereaved wife and daughters.
