Dr. Dana B. Rockwell was born at Pitcher Springs Chenango, N.Y., March 13, 1832, and died at Strawberry Point, Iowa, Nov. 23rd, 1908, aged 76 years.

He was educated in the schools of his native state graduating from Homer College, Homer N.Y., his collegiate course embracing the study of law. After completing his collegiate course he took up the study of medicine and practiced the healing art in his native state. In 1856 he found his way to California and spent some time in prospecting and mining in the far west. He was an extensive traveler, visiting Australia and the islands of the sea and portions of the Old World. He married Miss Parna Carter in the year 1855. Four children were born of this union, two of whom are living.

The mother of these children having died he married Martha Jane Phelps in 1871. The children remain of this union, Dr. Dana B. Rockwell, of Los Angeles, Cal., and Walter H. Rockwell, of Strawberry Point.

In 187_ (looks like 1870 or 1876) Dr. Rockwell came to Iowa and settled at Emmetsburg. Engaging in the practice of law. He became one of the leading attorneys of Northern Iowa, being associated with some of the most brilliant lights of his time. On account of throat trouble and loss of voice he abandoned the practice of the law and resumed the practice of medicine, a portion of the time in Tennessee and Florida his love for horticulture pursuits alluring him to the Southland.

His special lines and methods of practice led him to travel extensively in different sections of the state.

He was united in marriage with Alice Pugh April 19th, 1903, and has since resided here. The child of his old age, Lana Alice, fondly called "little pet" by him, is now three years old. His hope was to see her grown to womanhood. His great love for her, kindled a hope which of course could not be realized. The funeral was held on Thursday.
