Eliza Lamphere was born in Gainsville, New York, November 26th, 1825. She was married to Waldron Easton on Thanksgiving Day, 1842, in Gainsville, New York, the home of her birth. In 1846 she moved with her family to Lake County, Illinois, and in May, 1864, they moved to Strawberry Point, Clayton Co., Iowa, where they have since resided until two months ago, when they went to live with their eldest daughter, Mrs. Susan Church, at Rockford, Iowa. She died at Rockford, November 18th, 1908, at 6:15 a.m., at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 23 days. When she was a young girl she united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which she has been a faithful member to the time of her death. Eight children were born, one of whom, Walter, died at the age of five and a half years. It will be of interest to note that there are living, twenty grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Funeral conducted Friday, Nov. 20, at 10:30 a.m., from the M.E. church by Rev. E. S. Guilbert. Burial in Strawberry Point cemetery.
