Thursday, 12 February 1914, Elkader Register and Argus, Luana, p7, c4:

Word reached us last week that our old friend and neighbor, Mrs. L. L. Von Berg, had passed away at their home in Charles City, Iowa, Wednesday forenoon, Feb. 4th, burial at Charles City. Mrs. L. L. Von Berg was a teacher in our public school long years ago. She and her husband for many years conducted the general mercantile business now owned by F. Splies and son. She was also a very willing worker in Sunday School and church work, and, never having children of their own, made much of nieces and nephews and neighborhood children. The Luana friends extend sympathy to Mr. Von Berg in this season of bereavement.

Thursday, 19 February 1914, Guttenberg Press, p1, c4:

Former Guttenberg Resident Dies at Charles City

The Charles City Herald of February 4th says: Mrs. Rosa Von Berg, wife of L. L. Von Berg, died suddenly his morning. Her condition had been despaired of for some time as her health had not been good, and consequently the announcement is no surprise to her friends.

Mrs. Von Berg, nee Miss Metler [Mettler], was born in Bern, Switzerland, Aug. 17, 1847. When six years of age she moved with her parents to American and located near Dubuque, her father being a physician. Later her family moved to Guttenberg where she attended and later taught school, and in 1884 [sic] she was united in marriage to L. L. Von Berg and located in Luana. Fourteen years ago they moved to Charles City where they have since resided.

Funeral services will be held form her late home at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Caselman with interment at Riverside.
