Mrs. Caroline Dorothea Johansen [Johnsen] died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Murphy, at Elkader, Thursday morning, May 16th, aged 73 years, 1 month and 25 days.
Caroline Dorothea Juergensen was born at Alnor, Schleswig, Germany March 21st, 1834, and was married to John N. Johansen, August 8th, 1854. In 1855 the young couple came to this country and made Guttenberg their home. Mr. Johansen, who was an excellent cabinet maker and also conducted a furniture business, died eighteen years ago. During the past seven years Mrs. Johansen made her home with her daughter Mrs. D. D. Murphy, where during her feeble health she received the kindliest attention and care. She was a kind and devoted mother and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. The children left to mourn her demise are Charles and Mrs. Murphy of Elkader, and William of Guttenberg.
Her remains were brought to Guttenberg for interment beside her husband in the City cemetery, on Saturday afternoon, May 18th.
