Thursday, 19 February 1914, Guttenberg Press, Obituary, p1, c5:
This community was taken by surprise indeed, when the message was received announcing the death of Chas. Heiden, who but very recently moved his family and property onto the farm near Motor, which he had purchased. Mr. Heiden was a very robust-looking man, but having suffered a stroke previously, he suffered another Sunday A. M., Feb. 8, and died on Monday morning, Feb. 9, 1914. He having been born on Oct. 29th, 1867, his age at the time of his death was 46 years, 3 months and 12 days. He leaves to mourn his untimely death his widow, Mrs. Blanche Heiden, his daughters, Mrs. Ella Parmeter, of Cedar Rapids, and Ada, LeVera, Asa, George, Floyd and Raymond. An infant son, Carl Augustus, preceded him to the Great Beyond last Autumn. Rev. Janzig, of Guttenberg, performed the burial services, as the pastor, of Elkport, Rev. Foelsch, was unable to do so, owing to illness. It was a very impressive exhortation. The remains were laid to rest in the Lutheran Cemetery at Elkport. Other relatives who mourn over his loss and who attended the funeral were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aug. Heiden, of Guttenberg, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Heiden, of Motor, Miss Martha Heiden, of Guttenberg, Mrs. Henry Sieg, of Guttenberg, Miss Alvina Heiden, of Davenport, Dr. N. Friedlein, of Dubuque, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Wittick, of Waterloo, and Mr. and Mrs. Jay Parmeter, of Cedar Rapids.
We shall miss thee, dear oneThy form we’ll see no more,
Until we too shall have crossedTo that distant shore
Where parting and sorrowNo more shall come
But we’ll all be unitedForever, in that heavenly home.
_______CARD OF THANKS.
