Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 02 July 1908, Guttenberg column.

On the afternoon of June 25th Wm. Horsch died suddenly at his home, of heart failure. While chasing chickens in his garden and by his exertions he became overheated, and going to the house he sank to the ground unconscious. He was carried into the house and revived, and while walking in the room he dropped on the floor dead. Previously he had suffered prostrations while at work, but his strong constitution always overcame the weakness of the heart. Wm. Horsch was born Feb. 3rd, 1851, one of the first born of white parents in Guttenberg. In his youth he learned the cooper trade, then flourishing in our town and afterward he worked at various jobs. He was married April 23, 1874, to Miss Mary Strankmann and leaves to mourn his early demise a wife and four brothers, Robert and Henry of this city, and August and Emil in Dubuque county, and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Frick and Maggie Horsch. He was a member of the Guttenberg Turnverein and an honorary member of the Rescue fire company under whose auspices the body was interred in the City cemetery, last Saturday.
