Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 02 July 1908. Guttenberg column.

While on her way home from the Catholic church Sunday noon Mrs. Kass, the wife of Fred C. Leitgen's blacksmith. was knocked down by an engine while switching below the depot. Apparently the woman tried to get off the track but her dress caught somewhere on the rails and she was struck by the cylinder box, rendering her senseless. She was carried home and medical aid called, but she never rallied and stayed unconscious until death relieved her this morning early. Her age was about thirty-eight years and she leaves, besides her husband, ten children, the oldest one being fifteen years old.

(Note: An apparent reference to Mary B. Kass, 1870 / 06-27-1908, shown in WPA records as buried in Mt. Olivet cemetery.)
