Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 30 Apr. 1908.

After a short illness from pneumonia, Mrs. Mary Clark died Saturday morning, April 25th, at the home in Elkader of her daughter, Mrs. G. G. White.

Mary McArthur was born in New York City April 11th, 1841, and with her brother Archie came to Clayton county and became members of the Edwin Sherman family at National, when she was eleven years old.

In 1870 she was united in marriage with Henry Clark, at National, and is survived by two daughters, Mrs. G. G. White, of Elkader, and Mrs. Frank M. Adams, of Clarion, Iowa, and two grandchildren, Valmah White and Edna Adams.

Mrs. Clark and brother were fortunate in becoming inmates of the Sherman home surrounded by Christian influences, which they greatly appreciated and held their foster parents in the highest esteem.

Mrs. Clark united with Congregational church at National a number of years ago, and was always a devout member. In January of this year she placed her letter in the Congregational church at this place. She was a kind and affectionate mother and was ever thoughtful of the welfare of her children as well as of neighbors and friends.

Mrs. Clark made her home with the Sherman family until about 1898, when she came to Elkader to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. G. G. White. Here she has gained many friends who will mourn and miss her hearty welcome.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the White home, and despite the unfavorable weather was attended by many sympathizing friends. Rev. J. G. Dickey, of the Congregational church, officiated. The pall bearers were Messrs. H. D. Brown, J. R. Bayless, Dr. Wm. Miller, J. R. Becker, G. M. Gifford and W. M. Becker.

Among those present from abroad were Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Adams and daughter Edna, Clarion, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Bock and daughter Lura, of Waukon; W. C. Adams and Mrs. Benj. Adams, of Farmersburg, and others.
