Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 09 Apr. 1908. Condensed.
James Ivory was born Feb. 20th, 1829, near Kilkenny City, Ireland. He came to New Orleans in 1849, and to Clayton county in 1855.
He was married to Margaret Cooney July 17, 1853. Her death ten years later left him with three small children.
Two years later he married Catherine O'Brien Corbett, a widow with two young children. Her sudden passing away of heart failure March 20th, 1899, seemed more than his strong constitution could bear, and indeed he never recovered from the terrible loss. To this last union were born eight children, the eldest dying in infancy. Two of the others have passed away since, also two daughters of his first marriage, and two step-daughters.
All his living children, except Sister M. Luella, of Des Moines, with their families, followed the beloved remains to their last resting place in Cox Creek cemetery.
The funeral was held from Sacred Heart church of that place. Rev. Father Hartingan officiating. The six sons-in-law acted as pall bearers.
