ELAINE LOIS ROTH
Guttenberg
Elaine Lois Roth, 92, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital.
Elaine was born Feb. 24, 1926, the daughter of Charles and Fannie (Ross) Rodas, in rural Guttenberg. Elaine was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Church in Elkader. She graduated from the Elkader High School in 1943. On Aug. 20, 1947, Elaine married the love of her life, Theodore (Ted) Roth, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader. To this union they were blessed with three children, Dennis, Dean and Diane. On March 17, 1985, Ted and Elaine joined St. John's Lutheran Church, where they both remained members until their passing.
Elaine was always said to be very loving and kind as well as a devoted wife to Ted. She could be found with homemade sweets in her home as she was a fantastic cook and baker. In her younger years, she loved to go square dancing. She loved to tend to her garden, knit dishcloths or watch the Iowa Hawkeyes. She also liked the occasional soap opera, such as "As the World Turns." She could always be found supporting the Band Boosters or the Hospital Auxiliary.
Elaine will be forever loved and cherished by her three children, Dennis (Virginia) Roth of Guttenberg, Dean (Lindy) Roth of Rochester, Minn., and Diane (friend Paul) Bockenstedt of Guttenberg; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Lowell (Maureen) Rodas of Strawberry Point; sister-in-law, Charlene Rodas of Strawberry Point; and many nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ted, in 2015; siblings, Phyllis O'Rourke, Don "Bud" Rodas and Betty DeRuiter; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wilson and Katherine Clinton; and brothers-in-law, Arthur O'Rourke, Arnie DeRuiter, Bob Wilson, Gary Clinton and Art and Al Roth.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 207 S. First St, Guttenberg, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, and one hour before services Friday at the church. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, with the Rev. Shane Anderson officiating. Interment will be at Guttenberg City Cemetery.
