Jas. Christopher Steward, son of Christopher and Susan Steward, was born at Marietta, Ohio, 1837, and passed away at his home in this city March 1st, 1908. At the age of four years, his father having passed away, he came with his mother and younger sister to Madison, Wis. He resided at that place until he was seventeen, when he moved to Sauk county, Wis. He was married to Mary C. Stroud at Sandusky. Wis., March 18th, 1858, and resided in Wisconsin until 1875, when they came to Clayton county, Iowa, only a short distance from Strawberry Point. His wife and five children survive, three children having passed away before the father. The funeral services were conducted by L. F. Carrier, of which the M.W.A. were in charge.
