FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Basil Peter Sakas, 83, of Fort Collins, passed away on Monday, Dec. 18, 2006.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 3. The Allnutt Riverside Chapel, Fort Collins, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sakas was a stockbroker for Boettcher and Co. from 1967 until 1989, when he retired.
He was born on June 28, 1923, in Chicago, son of Peter E. and Stella (Orphanos) Sakas. He married Georgia Retsinas on June 15, 1952, in Rockford, Ill.
Basil was a former resident of Illinois, graduating from Amundsen High School in 1942. He attended Butler University in Indiana, and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He moved to Loveland in 1963 and to Fort Collins in 1968.
He was drafted into the Army in 1943, and was honorably discharged in February 1946.
He was a founding member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Loveland, a 57-year member of the Masons and a 40-year member of the Fort Collins Country Club.
He loved his family, friends and playing golf.
Surviving are his wife, Georgia Sakas, of Fort Collins; a daughter, Lisa Wolkin, and husband, Doug, of Parker; a son, Dr. Peter B. Sakas, and wife, Ginger, of Dubuque; a brother, Steve Sakas, of Skokie, Ill.; a sister, Elsie Sigalos, of Chicago; his grandchildren, Avery and Zane Wolkin and Sydnee, Elly, Michael and Ben Sakas; and many nieces and nephews.
