Ilo Anna (Nuehring) Rodenberg, 90, of Garnavillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at the Guttenberg Care Center.
She was born the daughter of Verni and Louise (Geuder) Nuehring on Sept. 11, 1923, near Guttenberg. Ilo received her education from the Jolly Ridge Country School and worked various jobs before becoming a cook for Garnavillo Community School.
She was very active in St. Peter Lutheran Church, singing in the choir, quilting for Lutheran World Relief, and also was head of the meal site, president of Senior Citizens and the Red Cross Bloodmobile coordinator for many years.
On June 14, 1944, she was united in marriage with LeVerl Rodenberg at St. John's Lutheran Church in Guttenberg.
Survivors include three daughters, Karilyn McArthur of Guttenberg, Marilyn "Mitz" Svestka of Garnavillo and Janet (Steven) Christianson of Garnavillo; three sons, Bill (Bev) Rodenberg of Garnavillo, Bob (Vickie) Rodenberg of Garnavillo and Brian (Vicki) Rodenberg of Elkader and Wyoming, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, Lisa (Steven) Huber, Lori (Mark Herman) Creery, Jamie Rodenberg, Kari (Craig) Atkinson, Britt (Jerod) Rodenberg Fox, Neal Christianson, Jay Christianson, Dustin (Susan) Kann-Rodenberg, Adam (Kelly) Rodenberg, Anthony Rodenberg, Rob (Joan) Frieden, Dennis (Elise) Rodenberg and Isaac (Kristin) Rodenberg; 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way; one sister, Norma Lehne of Monticello, Wis.; three brothers-in-law, Ed (LaVonne) Rodenberg, Norbert Dettman and Bob Livingston; three godchildren, Jean Brown, Owen Dettman and Linda Kahl; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kenneth Nuehring; one sister, Mildred Dettman; one grandson, Michael Frieden; sons-in-law, Alvin Svestka, Command Sergeant Major James McArthur, Carson Hagen and Bill Bonomolo; and special friend, Carl Seifert.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Garnavillo, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, and one hour before services at the church. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Garnavillo. The Rev. Hillary Burns-Kite will officiate. Interment will be at Guttenberg City Cemetery.
