GUTTENBERG, Iowa — Hattie Eva Appleton, age 103, of Guttenberg, IA, died Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at her home.

She was born in Greeley, Iowa, on June 29, 1913, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Torrey) Schrunk. On June 21, 1942, Hattie was united in marriage to Carroll Appleton in Long Beach, California. Together they owned and operated Appleton Funeral Home in Edgewood for many years before retirement. Hattie was a member of the United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Minnehaha Chapter #344 Colesburg, Iowa. Hattie spent her last 6 years on her family's home farm living with Art and Julie.

Those left to cherish her memory are Hattie's sister, Louise Ludovissy; sister-in-law, Hope Schenke; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carroll in 1981; sisters, Berdina Smith & Dorothy Gage.

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 207 S. 1st St, Guttenberg, IA, where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016. Funeral service will be at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016, Rev. Penny Hansel officiating. Interment will be at Guttenberg City Cemetery.
