James Oplinger.
The death of James Oplinger occurred at his home in Jefferson township, Clayton County, Iowa, on Sunday, February 27, 1916, at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 15 days, after a lingering illness. Deceased was born on April 12, 1840, in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, and on January 10, 1872, he was married at Wilkesbarre, Pennsylvania, to Miss Catherine Miller. Thirty-six years ago he came with his wife to Jefferson township, Clayton County, Iowa, and settled on a farm, where he lived until his death. He was also an old G. A. R. Veteran, being a member of Company A, of the 143rd Pennsylvania Regiment.
He was an ambitious and trustworthy man during his entire life and was a kind and true husband and friend. His death is deeply mourned by his aged wife and a large number of relatives and friends, by whom he will be sadly missed, and in his death this community loses another one of its pioneer settlers. Funeral services were held at his late home in Jefferson township Wednesday, and interment was made in the City Cemetery in Guttenberg. Rev. W. F. Smith, of the M. E. Church, of this city, conducted funeral services. The funeral was largely attended.
