FORMER RESIDENT OF GUTTENBERG PASSES AWAY
MRS. KATHERINE OPLINGER DIES AT LA CROSSE SAT.
FUNERAL HERE TUES.The death of Mrs. Katherine Oplinger, (nee Miller), a former long-time resident of this community, occurred at a La Crosse, Wisconsin, hospital on last Saturday morning, after a short illness at the age of 78 years.
Deceased was born at Wilkesbarre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in March, 1850, where she grew to womanhood and where she was married to Mr. James Oplinger, who preceded her in death twelve years ago. In 1878 Mr. and Mrs. Oplinger came to Clayton county, Iowa, settling on a farm in Jefferson township, where they resided for many years and where Mr. Oplinger passed away. After the death of her husband Mrs. Oplinger came to Guttenberg to make her home, where she resided until about one year ago, when she went to a home for the aged at La Crosse, Wisconsin, where she spent the remainder of her life. She was a faithful member of the Catholic church and a kind and true sister and friend.
She is survived by two brothers, William H. and and Charles Miller, of Guttenberg; one sister, Mrs. John Kregel, of Garber, a large number of nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends, by whom she will be sorely missed.
The body was brought to Guttenberg for burial on Monday afternoon and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller in this city. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Dupont at St. Mary's Catholic church in this city on Tuesday morning. Interment was made in Mt. Olivet cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.
