Military Service For Veteran of World War I

~~~~~~~~~~Military funeral services for William G. Heck under the auspices of the American Legion, were held last Saturday from the Steger funeral home to St. Mary's church, where the rites were in charge of Rev. Louis Gruenwald, pastor, and Rev. James McBride, assistant pastor.
Mr. Heck died Wednesday, February 17, at the Veterans' hospital in Iowa City where he had been a patient for the past year and a half.
A veteran of World War I, Mr. Heck served for a year and suffered a shrapnel wound about 6:00 a.m., November 11, 1918, just a few hours before the armistace became effective, ending that war.
William George Heck, 60, was born May 9, 1893, in Volga Township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Heck.
Mr. Heck is survived by four brothers, John of Floyd; Frank of Guttenberg; and Leander of St. Ofaf, and five sisters, Mrs. Ed Auer of Monona; Mrs. Paul Meier, Mrs. Herbert Kann, Mrs. Henry Fassbinder and Miss Mayme Heck, all of Guttenberg.
Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
