George Heck Dies at 82
George Heck, Sr., age 82, died on Monday night, August 24th, at 9:30 o'clock, following a lingering illness.
The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Mathias Heck and was born in Germany on June 13, 1849. At the early age of six he came to this country with his parents and established his home in Dubuque county. After a period of four years the family moved to Elkader and lived there until the time of his marriage. In his early days Mr. Heck was quite accustomed to driving an ox team, and at one time drove a team through this county.
In 1886 he was united in marriage to Miss Josephine Muench, at Elkader. They established their home on a farm in Volga township, until ten years ago, when they moved to Guttenberg.
He is survived by his widow, five sons, John of Charles City, George of Volga township, Frank of Guttenberg, and Wm. and Leander at home; and five daughters, Mrs. Josephine Auer of Monona, Mrs. Herbert Kann and Mrs. Henry Fassbinder, of Jefferson township, Mrs. Paul Meier of Guttenberg and Miss Mayme at home.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning at nine o'clock at the St. Mary's church with Rev. J. Dupont officiating. Burial was made in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
