Clayton County Register, Thur., 19 May 1927.

Frederich William Theodore*, for many years a respected citizen of Read township, passed away at the home of his son, Wm. Theodore, near Clayton, on Sunday, May 8th, shortly before noon.

Wm. Theodore was born on August 22nd, 1850, in Gros Beuster, Province of Saxony, Germany. Here in the land of his youth he was baptized and confirmed. He came to America in 1874 and remained in New York for one year, coming to Clayton Center the following year in 1875. He was well satisfied with the new country and sent for his wife and two children who remained in New York, to join him here.

Several years later he purchased a farm near Clayton Center, now occupied by Henry C. Huebner. In 1907 he and his wife returned to Clayton Center to spend their remaining years in comfort and quiet. Though advanced in years he found great enjoyment in garden and field work.

His first wife, the mother of Wm. and Mina, the two oldest children, passed away in 1880. His second wife died in 1890. She was the mother of two children, Emelia, married to Otto Seifert, and Anna, deceased.

In 1893 he was married to Mrs. Mina Huebner, who survives.

Mr. Theodore has been in failing heath for some time, and was tenderly cared for by his children. Several weeks ago he went to the home of his son, Wm. Theodore, near Clayton. Mr. Theodore was able to be around and had intended to go to his bedroom but opened the wrong door and fell down the cellar steps, the accident proving fatal.

He is survived by the widow, six children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He reached the age of 77 years, eight months and 13 days.

Funeral services were held at Clayton Center on Wednesday, May 11th. Rev. K. Wm. Braun of Garnavillo conducted the services.

Note: Surname is spelled THEODOR in Death Certificate and on his gravestone. His first two wives are buried in Zion Lutheran cemetery - Dorethea (1850-1879) and Lena (1854-1890). Both have gravestones there. William & 3rd wife (Wilhelmina 'Mina') are buried in the Clayton Center cemetery.
