Clayton County Register, Thur., 12 May 1927.
Mrs. Henry Shaw, nee Sarah Jeaugh, was born December 3, 1859, in Choskochton county, Ohio, and passed away here at Elkader May 4, 1927, at the age of sixty-seven years, four months and twenty-seven days.
January 11, 1878, she was united in marriage to Henry Shaw and to this union twelve children were born, four of whom preceded her in death. Her aged husband also preceded her in death seven months ago.
Mrs. Shaw has resided on a farm east of Elkader since 1888, where she and her husband settled after coming here from Ohio. She had been ailing for several months and her health failed almost from the time of the death of her husband, but no one was aware of the seriousness of her condition. Although knowing that she should not work as hard as she had done all her life, she was active to the very last and her sudden death was therefore a shock to her children and friends.
Her many acts of kindness, her generosity and sympathy will be missed by all. She leaves to mourn her death eight children: Mrs. Henry Meyer, Mrs. Wm. Stendel, Mrs. John Bayless, Mrs. George Buchholtz, and Vern, of Elkader, Walter of Colesburg, and Frank and Oscar at home. One sister, Mrs. Rose Sprague, and one brother, Frank, of Goshen, Indiana, two half-brothers, George and William Laird of Elkader, and two half-sisters, Mrs. Will Galimore and Mrs. Ella Trueblood of Michigan, as well as fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild, also survive. All of the children were present at the funeral services here Saturday, except Mrs. Wm. Stendel and Mrs. Vern Shaw, who were kept home by illness.
Services were held at the late home east of Elkader and at the Evangelical church here with Rev. C. H, Franke officiating and interment was made in the East Side cemetery.
