Clayton County Register, Thur., 10 Mar. 1927.
Mrs. Mary Probert, nee Grim, was born in Richland County, Wisconsin, October 6, 1862, and departed this life March 1, 1927, being 64 years, four months and 25 days old.
She lived in Wisconsin, about 20 years. Three years before leaving there, she was married to Mr. William Probert, and to this union were born three children, Oakland, Ernest and Eva, all of whom live at Volga, Iowa, now.
The subject of our sketch leaves her husband, three children, five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Emma Savage of Richland Center, Wisconsin, Mrs. J. G. Savage of Grand Island, Nebraska, three brothers, Mr. Phillip Grim of Sylvan, Wisconsin, Mr. H. S. Grim of Genoa, Nebraska, and Mr. C. H. Grim of Viola, Wisconsin, and a host of neighbors and friends to mourn her departure.
In her father's family there were eight children two of whom, her mother and father, and one grandchild preceded her to the better world.
After leaving Wisconsin, the family moved to this state to the old homestead in Highland where they lived until almost 16 years ago, when they moved to their present home in Volga.
Mrs. Probert gave her heart to God in her early years and lived a consistent Christian life, being a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church and always in her pew on the Sabbath while she was able, and always ready to work and do as her good judgment called for and when the summons came she was able to say "Not my will but Thine be done."
A mother is truly our guardian spirit upon earth;
Her goodness shields and protects; she walks with our infancy, our youth, and maturing age ever sheltering us with her absorbing love, and expiating our many sins with her blessed prayer. And when our mother with all her burden of love, her angelic influence, her saintly care ceases her beauteous life, how much we lose of home, of happiness of heaven, no one can reckon, for our mother was none but ours, and we only can know how holy she was, how sacred her memory must ever be. But may we now borrow consolation from the thought that our loss is heaven's gain, that surely her angel spirit watches over us, erasing with grateful tears the records of our sins, and making easy our path to her, with blessed and blessing prayers.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian church, Rev. Shindeldecker, her pastor, officiated. Burial in Hillcrest cemetery.
