Deceased was born in Germany, August 31, 1850, later coming to the United States and settling in Jefferson township, Clayton county, Iowa. She was married at Guttenberg, Iowa, to Mr. John Aulwes, who preceded in death on December 25, 1921. For many years deceased resided on a farm in this township, later coming to Guttenberg with her husband, to make her home, where the remainder of her life was spent. Mrs. Aulwes was a faithful member of the Lutheran church, and was a kind and loving mother and friend. Mrs. Aulwes was an ambitious woman during her entire life, and was ever ready with heart and hand to do acts of kindness for those in need, which won her many friends during life, and by whom her memory will be cherished. Her death is deeply mourned by four daughters, Mrs. H. H. Kuhlman, of Garnavillo; Mrs. John Purnhage of Guttenberg; Mrs. W. W. Kregel of Boone, Iowa; and Mrs. Bertha Cassutt of Seattle, Washington; one son, Otto Aulwes of Jefferson township; Five grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends by whom this worthy mother will be sadly missed.
