Thursday, 31 October 1912, Guttenberg Press, Elkport, p4, c2:
Casper Henry Horstman, another old pioneer, was called to his reward last Friday night about 11:00 P. M., death being caused by heart disease. Mr. Horstman was at the time of his death visiting with his daughter, Mrs. John Kuehl, and seemed to be in good health as he even had been husking some corn during the day. Mr. Horstman was born in Langenbund, Germany, on Sept. 13, 1837, and came to this country in the year 1882 and has been a resident of Clayton County ever since. He is survived by Fred Horstman, of Elkport, Mrs. John Kuehl and August Horstman, of Farmersburg, his children, a brother and sister. The pallbearers were: Henry Shroeder [sic: Schroeder], Geo. Reugnitz, Sr. [sic: Ruegnitz], Henry Krause, Robert Bushkofsky, Jos. Kuehl and Wm. Stemmer. The funeral services were held at the Lutheran church where Rev. Felsch preached a very appropriate sermon. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery. The funeral was largely attended, as deceased had a large number of friends and was highly respected. May he rest in peace.
Thursday, 31 October 1912, Guttenberg Press, Elkport, p4, c2: Wm. Reimer and Joseph Kuehl, of Elkader, were down Monday to attend the Horstman funeral.
