Twenty of so years ago the Hofer family published the McGregor News. It is now a scattered family, none remaining in the Pocket City. The following intelligence comes as an editorial note in the Cedar Rapids Republican of the 1st inst.:—
A. F. Hofer is dead. He died in Chicago at the age of 83. In the eighties he was one of the most quoted of Iowa editors. He made the McGregor News something of a state paper. His son, Ernest Hofer, was equally prominent in those days. The Hofers finally sold the McGregor paper and the family scattered from Salem, Oregon, where Ernest edited a daily paper to Chicago, where two of the Hofer girls attained reputations as kindergarten teachers and writers. It was one of the brightest and most prominent families in the state. Mr. Hofer had reached the age of 83 years and had been living in Chicago with his children.
One of the daughters is best known here as Mrs. Herman Hegner of Chicago._______________________________
