Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 20 Nov. 1919. Garber column.
Mrs. Marie Jauert passed away at her home in Volga township on last Friday noon, at the age of 78 years and 17 days.
The deceased was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, in 1841, and with her husband, parents and two children, came to America and settled for a short while near Elkader, later moving to East Elkport, where the family made their home on a farm since that time. Her husband passed away in 1901.
Mr. Tyhne, a grandson, took charge of the farm and Mrs. Jauert always took great interest in the proceeding, altho well along in years.
Mrs. Jauert was an industrious hard working woman and raised a family of ten children, eight of whom are still living, two having preceded their mother in death.
She leaves to mourn her loss eight children, one sister, 46 grand-children, and 35 great-grandchildren.
The funeral services were held at the German Lutheran church at Elkport, and the remains laid to rest in the Elkport cemetery. Rev. P. E. Stolz conducted the services.
The esteem in which she was held was shown by the number of friends from far and near, who came to pay the last sad rights to this aged lady.
