Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 6 Nov. 1919. Elkport column.
William T. McSperrin died at his home in Rockford, Ill., on Oct. 30, and the remains were brought here for interment. Mr. McSperrin was born at Elkport, on Nov. 1st, 1880, lacking but two days of reaching his thirty-ninth birthday. He was the fifth child of nine, born to William and Henrietta McSperrin, all of them with his aged mother are left to mourn the son and brother. His father alone, has preceded him in death. Here in the home in which they were born William passed through the successive stages of growth which mark the measure and statue of a full grown man. The early days were spent as all spend them, in play, in work and school. On March 23rd, 1903, he was united in marriage to Amanda Koehn, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Koehn, of Elkport. For a number of years their home was in Elkport and for the last ten years in Rockford, Ill., where his death occurred. Into this home was sent but one child, Melvin, who with his mother are left alone to meet life battles. The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon, from the home of the widow's parents, and was largely attended. The floral offerings were splendid. Rev. Fred Riggs officiated at the home and at the grave. The pall bearers were: Charles Watermann, Charles Kemps, Geo. Koehn, Wm. Koehn, Aaron Penhollow, and Ed. White. Interment was at Mount Harmony Cemetery.
