Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 18 Sept. 1919.
Nels Sorum was born November 26, 1841, in Landsprestegjald, Norway. There he was baptized and confirmed. In 1869 he came to America together with his mother and settled down in Clayton county, where his brother, Soren Olson Sorum lived, who had immigrated to this country before. Nels Sorum was married April 13, 1871, to Olina Bakke, Rev. O. Waldeland performing the marriage. The marriage was blessed with six children, two are dead, four are living.
Mr. Nels Sorum, who has been sickly for some time, died Monday morning, September the 8th, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 13 days, leaving his dear wife, Mrs. Olina Sorum, and four children surviving him: Mrs. Clara Ovregar, Mrs. Marie Stake, with whom her parents have lived for several years, Mrs. Ella Olson and Mrs. Emelia Peterson, twelve grandchildren and other relatives and many friends who mourn his departure. Nels Sorum was a good man, a good citizen and a very good Christian. As he lived, so he died - in a child-like faith in the Lord. Here we will remember the sweet words of our Savior, "Blessed are the dead, which die in the Lord." The funeral took place Wednesday forenoon, Sept. 10th. He was buried in the cemetery of the Norway church, Rev. Arvisine officiated.
