Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 11 Sept. 1919. Fairview column.

Mrs. Chas. Wenkstrem died on Saturday morning of last week. The cause of her death was cancer of the stomach. Funeral services were held from the home on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Riggs of Fairview church. Burial was at Mt Harmony.

Will Wenkstrem of Berlin, N. Dak., has been at the parental home for several weeks during the fatal illness of his mother, Mrs. Chas. Meukstrem.

Mrs. Chas. Winkstern was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, On June 15, 1850, and came to the United States in 1852 with her parents and lived at Michigan City, Ind., until her mother died in 1853. From there the rest of the family moved to Clayton County, Iowa, and have made their home here since.

Deceased was married Oct. 1872, to Mr. Chas. Winkstern, who remains to mourn her death. This union was blessed with three children, who also survive the mother: Charles Winkstern, of Edgewood; Wm. Winkstern, of Berlin, N.D.; and Miss Mary at home. Besides these she leaves one brother, Wm. Koehn of Elkport, and two half-brothers, John Koehn of Luverne, Minn., and Henry Koehn of Elkader.

She was a good loving wife and mother and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Her death occurred at her home on Sept. 6th, and was caused by a cancer of the stomach. She was buried at Mount Harmony on Sept. 9th, Rev. Riggs officiating. The following out of town people attended the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Winkstern and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Aulwes of Guttenberg, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Witt and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Musfeldt of Elkader. The funeral was largely attended.

Pall bearers were: Winfrey Smith, Walter Hageman, J. A. Swisher, D. D. Oldham, Robert Hansel and Cleve Garretson.

Note: per her death certificate the correct spelling of surname is Wenkstern and her given name was Augusta
