Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 28 Aug. 1919.

Mr. Albert Andreae was born at Heidenheim, Bavaria, March 19, 1835. His parents were George Andreae, a school teacher at Heidenheim, and Sopie nee Krantz.

Having received religious instruction in the Lutheran faith he was confirmed in his native town. Sometime after his confirmation he came to Nuremberg to learn the merchant's trade.

In 1853 he came to America, locating at Dubuque, where he for some time was employed as clerk.

On January 20, 1856, he was united in marriage at Dubuque with Miss Magdalene Prottengeier. In 1859 he removed with his family to St. Sebald, Clayton county. Here he lived until the time of his death, with the exception of a short intervening stay at Madison, Wis., and McGregor, Iowa.

Mr. Andreae was the father of ten children, two however preceded him in death. Those who with their mother are left to mourn the departure of the father are: Conrad, Christoph, Carl, John, Mrs. Babetta Bellon, Gottifried, Esther and Sebald. Beside these he is survived by fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The last years were to the deceased years of heavy burden. Old age and complications pressed heavily upon him, but in Christian-like manner he bore his cross to the end, which occurred last Sunday afternoon at about three o'clock. He reached an age of 84 years and 5 months.
