Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 31 Jul. 1919.

Henry Krieg died at the home of his mother in Elkader, July 27, 1919, at 4:55 a.m. after a lingering illness of several months at the age of 30 years, 10 months and 10 days.

Deceased was born on a farm in Cox Creek township, near Communia, September 17, 1888. He had been ailing ever since his father's death two years ago, at that time having pneumonia. He answered his country's call but was rejected and tried a second time but was again rejected. He then tried to do his bit at home but was quite disappointed because he could not take part in the active fighting and instead went to work on a farm. This however proved to much for him and he had to give it up.

He was always patient, never complaining and until July 4th, was always planning what he would do in the future. On that day he told his mother certain things he wanted her to prepare for his dinner for he said it would be the last 4th of July dinner he would have with them. Since then he failed rapidly and now there is:

One more in Heaven !
Another thought to brighten cloudy,
days;
Another theme for thankfulness and
praise;
Another link on high our souls to
raise
To home and Heaven !

To which he was very anxious to go as he had expressed a wish to a friend a few days ago, stating that he could soon go to sleep.

He leaves to mourn his early departure his mother, two sisters and two brothers. His father and three sisters having preceded him to that other home.

Funeral services were held at the Ev. Church Tuesday forenoon and his remains were taken to Mederville for interment in the family lot, Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. The many friends of this vicinity tender the bereaved family their most sincere sympathy at the untimely passing of a son and brother.
