Joseph D. Richards, a brakeman on the Dubuque division of the C.M. & St. P., accidentally lost his life a short distance south of McGregor Tuesday evening at about 9:30. In some manner he fell from the top of a box car and under the wheels of the moving train. His body was badly mutilated and cut up, part of it being found on one side of the track and part on the other. From his identification card it was found that his home was at Sinsinawa, Wis., and his folks were immediately notified. His father started at once for McGregor, but missed connections and remained at Dubuque where the body was sent after an inquest had been held. Besides his identification card, $9.35 in cash and an honorable discharge from the army, was found on his person. These were turned over to Clerk M. G. Hagensick by Sheriff Losch.
