Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 3 July 1919.

Adelbert John Chapman was born in Highland township, Clayton County, Iowa, Jan. 12, 1876, and died June 25, 1919, at the age of forty-three. On the 24th day of Feb., 1897, he was united in marriage with Martha Hanson, who survives him. In his early manhood he took on himself the yoke of the meek and lowly Jesus, and bore it faithfully to the end. Since his whole life was spent in our midst, Bert seems peculiarly our own, and his death is felt as a personal loss to the whole community, who deeply sympathize with his stricken family. He will be sadly missed in the church and in social gatherings.

Besides his wife and children he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Chapman of Elgin, his twin sister, Della, and older brother, Charles of Highland, and a number of more distant relatives, among whom the one known to us all perhaps, and the one who will feel his loss most keenly, is his namesake uncle, Adelbert Chapman, who has always made one of his boyhood's home circle. His three sons, Harlowe, Arthur and Delbert, are left to comfort the sorrowing mother and to cherish and perpetuate the memory of their father's stainless life.

In spite of the pain and weariness he suffered his warm heart had room for loving appreciation of his neighbors' attentions. Even during his last hours he did not fail to express grateful recognition of every little token of affection.

He was buried in the Highland-Illyria Cemetery, close to the church where he worshipped in company with his family and friends. The funeral was largely attended, and took place on Saturday afternoon, June 28th.
