Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 1 May 1919.
The people of this community were greatly surprised Monday to hear that Mrs. Chas. Ehrhardt had died suddenly that morning of heart failure. She had been attending to her household duties and sat down to rest. Her husband spoke to her and seeing her unconscious he immediately summoned Dr. W. J. McGrath, but it was to late, as she was already beyond human aid.
Elizabeth Brockman, daughter of Christ and Marie Brockman, was born July 3, 1858, on a farm in Farmersburg township and died April 28, aged sixty-one years and nine months at her home in Elkader.
She was married June 5, 1884, to Chas. Ehrhardt at Clayton Center and five sons were born to them, Carl R. on the home farm in Boardman township; George C., a merchant at Communia; Fredrick J., of Leon, Iowa; Edward H., of Elkader; and Elmer, who assists his brother on the farm. One daughter died in infancy. Mrs. Ehrhardt is also survived by three grandchildren, her aged father and two brothers, Frederick and Christ at home in Farmersburg township, two sisters, Annie, Mrs. Edward Reardon of Elkader, and Sarah at home.
A couple of years ago Mr. and Mrs. Ehrhardt turned the management of their farm over to their son Carl and having purchased a home in Elkader came to town to enjoy a well earned rest.
The funeral was held this (Thursday) afternoon at two o'clock at the Evangelical Lutheran church, Rev. C. H. Franke conducting the services, in the presence of a large audience of friends and neighbors who had gathered to pay the last sad tribute of love and affection to the deceased. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery.
