Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 10 Apr. 1919.

Grover Cleveland Cassidy Buried At Aberdeen.

Grover Cleveland Cassidy died at Aberdeen, S.Dak., March 27, 1919, at the age of 34 years, 1 month and 4 days from an attack of pneumonia following influenza.

Deceased was born at Elkader, February 22, 1885, and about 9 years ago was united in marriage to Agnes Fredericks. To this union was born one daughter, now seven years of age. He is also survived by his father and mother here at Elkader, four brothers; George G., Fred V., James G., and Jerry M. Jr., besides eight sisters: Mrs. G. G. Attwoold, Mrs. May Bently, Mrs. Len Lehner, Mrs. K. Sampson, Mrs. John Allen, Mrs. R. L. Bentley, Mrs. H. D. Bonnar and Miss Elsie.

Grover left Elkader about 1902 and worked at the trade of bricklayer at various points in Minnesota and Canada. About ten years ago he went to Aberdeen, which until recently had been his home.

Last winter he and his family went to California and were preparing to make their home there. Mr. Cassidy had returned to Aberdeen to settle his affairs there when he was taken sick with the influenza and pneumonia followed. He died before his wife could come to him from California.

The funeral was held April 2, 1919, at 1:30 p.m. from the Methodist church and was largely attended. A large body of his fellowmen, including the I.O.O.F, the Woodmen, the Central Labor Union, the Brick Layers Masons and Plasterers' International Union, No. 3, escorted the body to the church. The Philathea class of the Methodist church also attended in a body. A quartet sang very beautifully two selections and the entire roster of the church was filled with flowers, tributes sent by the deceased's many friends. Dr. Gilbert Stansell officiated. The I.O.O.F. lodge held a very impressive service at the grave. Interment was made at Riverside.

This community extends it's sympathy to the bereaved family and other relatives in this, their hour of sorrow.
