Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 20 Mar. 1919.
Susanna Wagner, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wagner, was born June 27th, 1836, at Pratz Grand Duchy of Luxemburg, and died at her home in Elkader, March 15, 1919, at seven p.m. aged eighty-three years.
She came to America with her parents in 1861 and in the spring of the same year was married to Peter Wagner at Luxemburg, Iowa, the culmination of a courtship in their native country.
To this union three sons were born, John, now living on the home farm; Charles, of Mark Center, Ohio; and Peter, of Carrol, Iowa; also three daughters, Anna and Katherine at home and Elizabeth, Mrs. Peter Rausch, of Tennis, S.D.
In the year 1868 the family moved on to a farm five miles north of Elkader. In June 1912 shortly after Mr. Wagner's death, Mrs. Wagner with her two daughters, Anna and Katherine, moved to Elkader where they have since lived.
Besides her six children Mrs. Wagner is survived by one sister, Mrs. Chas. Lei, of Dubuque, and eight grandchildren.
Failing health since last September had so weakened her constitution that regardless of loving care and tender nursing she succumbed to the extra strain of an attack of pneumonia.
The funeral was held Wednesday (next several words blurred) March 19, at St. Joseph's church, Rev. J. P. Taken assisted by Rev. A. J. Hetherington of Volga, conducting the services. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery.
Those from out of town in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Lei, of Dubuque, Michael Linck of Dyersville, and Chas. Wagner of Luxemburg, Ia.
