Henry Kottman was born July 26, 1854, in Seigen, Germany; and passed away at his home in Elkader, March 10, 1919, at the age of 64 years, 7 months and 12 days. In 1857 he came to America accompanied by three sisters, two brothers and his mother and father.
In 1872 he was married to Lena Baars, they lived on a farm in Cox Creek township. Here five children were born to them. In 1903 he moved to Elkader where he has since conducted a store.
Mr. Kottman has been in poor health all winter and had been to Chicago, Mason City and other places for medical treatment.
He was preceded to the Great Beyond by his wife who passed away in Feb. 15, 1905, and two daughters, Louise and Annie. Those who survive him are his three children, Mrs. John Steen, of Elkader; Louis, of Volga, and Henry of Monona; one sister, Mrs. August Borman, of Elkader, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Kottman was a member of the Woodman lodge.
The funeral service was held in the Evangelical church at Elkader on Wednesday at one o'clock. Rev. C. H. Franke preached the funeral sermon. Interment was made in the East Side cemetery.
