Henriette Susanne Gratke, second daughter of Carl Rodies and Leopoldine, his wife, was born Dec. 14, 1841, at Jodlauken, East Prussia. Here she was baptized, spent her childhood days, and was instructed in the Lutheran faith, and confirmed at the age of 14 years
In the winter of 1869 she came to America, and in April 2, 1869, was united in marriage to Samuel Gratke. To this union three children were born, Anna, Robert and Emma. During her married life she lived on a farm in Delaware county until 1882, then she moved to Strawberry Point, which has been her home ever since. She died Feb. 27, 1919, at 9 o'clock a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Wareham, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 13 days. Influenza with other complications causing her death. Her husband preceded her to the beyond on Sept. 30, 1905, her son Robert on July 3, 1918, and oldest daughter Anna Whitman just 6 days ago.
She leaves to mourn her loss, one daughter, Emma Wareham, and one step-son G___red Gratke, of this place, one sister, Anna Marshall, and one brother, Chas Rodies, both living in Manchester, Iowa.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Fritschel at the home of L. C. Wareham at 2:30 p.m., interment in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
