Services Held for Farmersburg Businessman

Funeral services were held for Herbert C. Thoresen on Fri., June 6, 1975 at 10:30 a.m. in Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona with Rev. Raymond Pacholke officating. Organist was Mrs. Ivon Schultz and soloist was Mrs. Tom James.

Pallbearers were Vern Hupfer, Don Coxey, J.J. Mathews, Adrian Huinker, Don Houg, Robert Evans, Oscar Torkelson and LeRoy Reardon. Burial was in Monona City Cemetery, new east side.

Herbert C. Thoresen, son of Ole and Ella Johnson Thoresen, was born Oct. 8, 1902 at Farmersburg, Iowa. He passed away at the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien on June 4, 1975, following a short illness, at the age of 72 years, 7 months and 26 days.

After graduation from Elkader High School in 1922, he attended Cedar Rapids Business College and University of Northern Iowa. He was associated with Universal Producing Company of Fairfield, Iowa, for many years. He was in the hardware business for 36 years, first being in partnership with his uncle, Ed Johnson, and then assuming full ownership in 1943.

He was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church, Clayton Lodge No. 70 A.F. & A.M., and the Tri-City Golf Club.

He was united in marriage to Margarete Barrows on July 9, 1929. There was one daughter, Lynn, born to this union.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mrs. Godfrey Skogman of Cambridge, Minn.

He leaves to remember him, his wife, his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Haakenson of Osage, Iowa, and a grandson, Scott; a niece, nephew and a number of cousins.
