Margarete Thoresen, the daughter of Edward and Lucy Pickering Barrows, was born February 23, 1904 at Odebolt, Iowa. After graduation in Springfield, Missouri, she attended University of Northern Iowa and taught school in Farmersburg. then she was associated with Universal Producing Company of Fairfield, Iowa for many years, later she taught in the MFL Schools.

She was united in marriage to Herbert C. Thoresen July 9, 1919 and to this union one daughter was born.

She was a member of the Garden City United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Monona Library Board of which she had just recently been president.

Margarete died Friday, February 18, 1983 at the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, Iowa after a long illness reaching the age of 78 years, 11 months, 25 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother Richard Barrows.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Dick Haakenson of Osage, grandchildren Scott and Julie, a sister Mrs. John (Katherine) McFaull of St. Petersburg, Florida, and a brother Edward Barrows of Redlands, California.
