Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 16 Jan. 1919. Strawberry Point column.
Alice Catherine Osborn was born near Quebec, Canada, June 10, 1844. She never knew a mother's care as her mother died at the time of her birth. At an early age she moved with her father to Illinois and a little later to Iowa where they settled in Cox Creek, Clayton county. On July 4, 1861, she was united in marriage with Lorenzo Easton and they settled on a farm near Strawberry Point. They lived at that place until October 2, 1907, when health considerations led them to move to Burte, Iowa, and make their home with their daughter, Mrs. W. A. Peters.
At her marriage Mrs. Easton accepted the care of four children of her husband and to them she gave a mother's love and solicitude. Later on when a sister passed away she took into her home and heart the baby boy thus left motherless and raised him until he was able to go out as a young man and care for himself. He is Fred W. Brownson of Waterloo, Iowa.
Mr. Easton died at his daughter's home in Burte, Iowa, in March 1908.
To them were born three children, Herbert, who died in infancy; Charles W. who lives near Strawberry Point and Mrs. W. A. Peters of Burte, Iowa. The deceased united with the Christian church at Pleasant Grove in the fall of 1892 and remained a faithful member to the end. She leaves to mourn for her, her own son and daughter, two step-sons, Joshua and Lorenzo Easton of Strawberry Point; and one step-daughter, Mrs. Geo. S. Sherman, of Edgewood, Iowa, besides a large number of more distant relatives and a great many friends who loved her. She died on January 7, 1919 at the home of her daughter in Burte, Iowa, aged 74 years, 7 months and 27 days. A short funeral service was held in the home at Burte and the remains were brought to Strawberry Point where a service was held in the Methodist church conducted by Rev. S. C. Bretnal of Edgewood and the body was laid to rest in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
