O.A. Kenyon was taken sick in January but kept about doing his daily duties until the last week in March when he took to his bed and the messenger of death laid hold of his strong nature preparing him for that last journey to eternity. He died Thursday May 12th at 11:30, 1904 at the ripe old age of 82 years and 6 months.

O.A. Kenyon was born in Benson, Vermont, November 22nd, 1821. He came with his parents to Cleveland, Ohio, when a young man of about 18 years of age, here he taught school for some time, when his parents moved to northern Illinois and then to Madison, Wisconsin in the early 50's.

In November 1857 he was married at Janesville, Wisconsin, coming to McGregor where for a number of years he had charge of a photograph gallery.

In 1866 he purchased the farm on which he spent so much of his time in planting and profligating all kinds of fruits. The location is a most beautiful one with the fine large evergreen trees he had set out also, all kinds of fruit trees among his last work he grafted 300 pear trees which he hoped to get out to his many friends this season.

Deceased was secretary of the Clayton County Agricultural Society for a number of years, also an honored member of the N.E. Horticultural Society, the president of which visited him last summer when he was unable to attend their meetings, also Township Assessor for 16 years, always faithful to every trust.

He was a member of the Congregational church where the services were held Sunday afternoon, Rev. G.A. Frannois officiating. He was laid to rest within a bank of flowers which he had loved and enjoyed so much. Many old friends and neighbors had gathered to pay their last respects to one who was honored and respected by all that knew him. We will miss his frequent visits and words of good cheer.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his aged wife and three daughters, Mrs. O.M. Hatch, Miss Nellie of Helena, Mont., and Jessie Kenyon of Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Hatch was with her mother, the others being so far away they were unable to reach home in time.
